Yozakura: A Sake Set Inspired by Sakura

A Celebration of Nature and Japanese Aesthetics

Yozakura, which translates to "night Sakura," is a sake set that beautifully combines Japanese tradition, nature's beauty, and the art of sake enjoyment. Designed by govy, this unique set draws inspiration from the Sakura cherry blossom pattern, creating a truly captivating and elegant drinking experience.

The Yozakura sake set is a celebration of the Sakura cherry blossom, a symbol of renewal and the arrival of spring in Japanese culture. The designer, govy, was deeply inspired by the Japanese aesthetic and the tradition of Yozakura, where people gather under lighted trees at night to appreciate the beauty of the Sakura while enjoying sake and food.

What sets the Yozakura sake set apart is its attention to detail and the incorporation of the Sakura pattern throughout the design. The inside of the pentagon cup is delicately carved to resemble a blossomed flower, creating a stunning visual when sake is poured into it. The carafe's opening is designed to mimic a Sakura petal falling in the wind, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design.

The Yozakura sake set is made using slip cast porcelain, ensuring both durability and a smooth finish. The set is available in black, with optional gold or silver finishes, allowing for personalization and versatility. The carafe measures 150 mm x 75 mm (diameter) and can hold up to 250 ml of sake, while the cup measures 30 mm x 55 mm (diameter) and has a capacity of 27 ml.

One of the most captivating aspects of the Yozakura sake set is the interaction between the sake and the cup. Sake is poured from the carafe's Sakura petal opening into the bloomed Sakura flower inside the pentagon cup. As the sake fills the cup, it forms a flower shape within the carving, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. This interaction is particularly enchanting when using white Nigori sake, as the flower slowly blooms while pouring.

The Yozakura sake set was first prototyped in 2012, with production starting in Seto, Japan in early 2015 and distribution in mid-2015. Throughout the design process, govy faced various challenges, including resolving dripping issues with the carafe and experimenting with different depths of the flower carving in the cup to achieve a harmonious balance. The final design is not only functional but also organic and sleek.

Recognized for its exceptional design, the Yozakura sake set was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards.

The Yozakura sake set is a testament to the beauty of Japanese culture, the elegance of Sakura cherry blossoms, and the art of sake enjoyment. With its unique design and captivating interaction, it is sure to enhance any sake-drinking experience and bring a touch of sophistication to any occasion.
